Discovering an artist who blends art with A.I.
On Sunday, The African Diaspora Art Museum of Atlanta (ADAMA) capped off a full weekend of discovery and dialogue with Brooklyn-based French Senegalese visual artist, Delphine Diallo.
With the opening of “The Mythic Quest”, Diallo’s work speaks directly to the empowerment of womanhood and its role beyond reality. Her specialty, photography, fruitions her beliefs, and has found new ways of expression with the introduction of artificial intelligence. Coupling the use of a new technology, Diallo has stretched the canvas to meet her own imagination.
“A.I., for me, is an expansion of my consciousness inside of the tool, but I had to, first, create an entire body of work, twenty years of framework and understanding that nobody is going to take away my vision or my narrative from my lived experience,” said Diallo.
Despite the social, environmental, and ethical concerns in the wake of A.I., Diallo insists on playing the game from the inside out to ensure Black representation is not only curated by us, but is accurate and true for us.
When speaking about the comfortability of use with the man-made intelligence in her work, Diallo references the obvious; with any skill comes learning, discovery, and then practice. She applies that same, trusted process to something very new.
“I apply the same discipline and determination in my own life,” she mentioned. “For years, I was able to build relationships with women in New York and already created a framework, in real life, by inviting people into my space, collaborating, fostering conversations of openness about their talent, and reflecting their light. When entering A.I., I understood to repeat that same energy inside,” she added.
Diallo’s work is a mixed media presentation with her photography and an A.I. motion picture film. It will be on display at ADAMA until November 14th.
