The NFL disappoints, yet again.

Imagine it’s the year 2020, four years post the start of, yet another, social injustice revolution, and haven’t seen progression? Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the US national anthem on 9/01/2016 to bring the reality of social injustices and police brutality amongst Black Americans; and in return, received the blackest of balls! No pun intended, but the man has not been allowed to step foot in the National Football League since. But where are we now? Kanye West’s “Jesus is King” Album Key Lyrics

A breakdown of the words that mean the most.

Kanye’s latest album came, surprisingly, earlier  than the anticipated “Yandhi” album. With fans still itching to get an earful of “Yandhi”, the artist made an entire energy switch by dedicating a whole project to his recent spiritual endeavors. We all know ‘Ye by now, so the spontaneity is, honestly, expected. This is a full-fledged gospel project dedicated to his love for the Holy Spirit and the artist’s personal journey, which caught some off guard.

The album is short, but meaningful with quite a few key quotes that help bridge the communication gap between he and his audience. He said in an interview that The Lord told him to “use himself”, and quite frankly, what better way for ‘Ye to use his own words.

August 1619 – America’s First Sin

Late August 2019 marks the 400th year anniversary of the introduction of African flesh via the African slave trade here in America. 

Honestly, 400 years was not that long ago. Certainly much longer than the fight for civil rights 56 years ago today, and also preceding the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation only 100 years before that. So, it’s definitely safe to say we are still feeling the effects of those dark times in 2019. Some may not agree, but I would challenge them to look deeper than themselves in contrast with 20th century modernisms. Pardon my digressions, this is a topic for another day!
