The message is in the title, ladies and gentlemen.
I have made a point to keep an eye on my Eagles, since I left campus in 2013. I try to keep an unbiased perspective on the team’s performance, so I will say this…Since the Eagles moved into the Sun Belt Conference, they have really struggled to keep that strong, southern momentum that made them great years ago. So what happened? Could it have been Monken’s move to GA Tech? Losing key players, like McKinnon and Wilcox ,to the NFL? Could be a number of factors, to be honest.
BUT let me tell you what I see, and have always seen since my football editor days. I see a football program who has failed to fix their weaknesses behind the ball. The main weakness is at the lead position, quarterback!
Don’t get me wrong, the quarterbacks themselves aren’t the problem, maybe, but offense definitely needs to migrate to a more passing offense. It’s always been a “Georgia Southern Characteristic” to have a strong rushing offense. That’s all fine and dandy, but without having a well balanced offense, the Eagles and their football program, unfortunately, won’t get too far.
Game ending stats weren’t of my surprise. It was actually a dead giveaway to why the Eagles took home the “L” and should have sent a CLEAR message to the entire football program. Take a look and tell me what you see.

The Eagles have always used the option run and scouted talented runners, but what they need is to develop a much stronger passing game. How else will they dominate their division and tackle more challenging schools? (no pun intended)
Thoughts?
